Brigitte Speirs

Brigitte Speirs was born in Vienna but has lived and worked abroad for many years. She stayed in the United Arab Emirates from 2002 to 2017 and has been involved in animal welfare, advocating the protection of all animals, not only pets. She has been a vegetarian from 2000 to 2012 and became vegan in 2013. In the same year Brigitte and her friend Barbara have founded an animal rescue group in Dubai, which continues work although both founding members have moved back to their home countries. Due to the high number of abandoned pets and the limited number of people willing to adopt, Brigitte has tried to relocate some pets to Europe as homeless animals usually get euthanized in the United Arab Emirates. Brigitte had the pleasure to meet Carol Byers who made it possible for her to continue animal rescue work in Austria. A few Arabian Mau cats will get the chance of life and find new families here with the generous help of Animal Care Austria. Brigitte, Barbara and their team in Dubai would like to take the opportunity and thank Carol Byers for supporting their cause and are looking forward to a good cooperation.

Brigitte will also be involved in organisational and administrative work with Animal Care Austria in future. Furthermore, her husband Robert, a hobby musician originally from Glasgow, Scotland, will contribute background music for animal videos. He will also play live music at events like "Marty's Party" at the Beaver Brewing Company, where he played the guitar and sang folk songs. Brigitte and Robert have both been animal welfare advocates for many years and are very proud to be able to continue their work with the kind support of Carol Byers and Animal Care Austria.
